STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
Street Stories
Observations of everyday life, from London to the streets beyond.
The street is where much of my journey as a photographer began.
I've always been fascinated by the everyday theatre of public life. The fleeting expressions, unexpected encounters and quiet moments that unfold around us, often without anyone noticing.
Street photography taught me to slow down, observe and anticipate. To recognise that even the most ordinary encounter can reveal something about the people and places around us.
From the familiar streets of London to Granada, Istanbul and Tokyo, these photographs span more than a decade of observation and discovery.
Some belong to ongoing bodies of work. Others emerged from a single encounter. Together, they reflect how my photographic approach has evolved and how the street continues to influence my wider documentary practice.
Re-worked & Re-lived
Watching the World Go By — Chinatown, London | Photographed 2014 · Reworked 2020
I originally photographed this scene in London's Chinatown in 2014, experimenting with slow shutter speeds to capture the movement of people through the city.
Six years later, during the COVID-19 lockdown, the streets that had inspired much of my photography were suddenly empty.
I found myself returning to my archive, revisiting earlier black-and-white photographs and reinterpreting them through the colour grading style I had developed in the intervening years.
The resulting series, Re-worked & Re-lived, allowed me to reconnect with the streets at a time when photographing them had become almost impossible.
The Art of Observation
London has provided the backdrop to much of my photographic journey.
From crowded Underground carriages to the quieter corners of the city, I'm drawn to the moments that happen between the more obvious events of everyday life.
Sometimes it's an expression. Sometimes it's the way someone occupies a space. And sometimes it's simply the relationship between a person and the light around them.

Beyond Familiar Streets
The streets may change, but my curiosity remains the same.
Travelling has given me opportunities to observe everyday life beyond London. Different cultures, unfamiliar surroundings and the rhythms of other cities offer new perspectives on the relationship between people and the places they inhabit.
Whether I'm walking through Granada, Istanbul or Tokyo, I'm drawn to the same fleeting moments that first inspired me to pick up a camera.
Sometimes the most revealing photographs are made when you're simply paying attention.
In This Moment — Granada, 2020
Street photography during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I photographed this series in Granada, Spain, during 2020, when COVID-19 restrictions had begun to ease. Face masks were still mandatory in public, and the streets, normally full of life, were unusually quiet. I found myself observing a different rhythm of everyday life. The absence of crowds brought individual figures, gestures and moments of solitude into sharper focus.
These photographs form part of In This Moment, a series documenting everyday life in Granada during an extraordinary period in its history.

Istanbul — Between Two Worlds
Istanbul, Turkey | 2022
Walking through Istanbul, I was struck by the relationship between its people, architecture and everyday life.
From the activity of its streets to the quieter moments unfolding within its historic buildings, I found myself observing how people inhabit these very different spaces.
These two photographs reflect that contrast — different surroundings, but the same curiosity about the human presence within them.

Japan — The Spaces Between
Japan | 2025
During my time in Japan, I found myself drawn to the everyday moments taking place beyond the familiar images of its cities.
From crowded streets and neighbourhood restaurants to quieter encounters after dark, I was interested in how people moved through their surroundings and interacted with one another.
Some moments lasted only a fraction of a second. Others unfolded slowly enough for me to stop and observe.
What interested me most wasn't necessarily where I was, but what was happening around me.

Different streets. Shared humanity.
More than a decade after I first began photographing the streets of London, I'm still drawn to the same thing: the unexpected moments that reveal themselves when we take the time to look.
