Shared Stories

Ridley Road Stories is a photographic slideshow drawn from my ongoing documentary work on Ridley Road Market in Dalston, East London. Through intimate street portraits and observational moments, I document the everyday life, culture and resilience of the African and Caribbean communities that have shaped this iconic street for generations.

This project is built on co-authorship with the community. The stories emerge through conversation, trust and time spent on the street, with participants actively shaping how they are seen and represented. Rather than observing from a distance, I work alongside people to create images that feel honest, respectful and true to lived experience.

As Dalston continues to change, Ridley Road Stories acts as both a visual archive and a shared act of storytelling — preserving voices, identities and histories that are often overlooked. It is a commitment to authenticity, collaboration and the power of photography to reflect communities as they see themselves.
